Hey friends – I feel like so much has happened since I blogged last. Summer has been super busy in our house. It’s hard to believe we’re going to be rolling out of August soon and heading into a new month!
Earlier this month hubby and I celebrated our 5th anniversary in Jamaica. We really had such a great time. We try to take advantage of all the stuff the resorts have to offer. We love getting to meet other couples and mingling with them in some pool or sand volleyball. The resort we stayed at had the stand-up paddle boards available. We had never tried them before so we were both excited. The ocean waves proved to be a little challenging in keeping our balance. I ended up going out on three different occasions, each time venturing a little bit farther out. I feel pretty good about not falling off at all! Thank you strong core!
I taught cycling and boot camp style classes while we were there, and I was also in a high mileage training week for my upcoming marathon. There wasn’t really anywhere for me to run the distances I needed to, so I was logging miles in the gym on their treadmill. What a challenge that was!!! It’s always great to get away with your partner and reconnect.
Once we got home we were right back into the throws of life. The next day my son started 7th grade, football practice, and fall baseball. Just a week and a half later, we moved my daughter into her college dorm. Life in our house has definitely changed in the last few weeks from the routine we carried over the summer. Moving my daughter into college has been such an eye opening experience. I think back over the years and think how quickly they have all gone by. I am so proud of my daughter as she enters this new chapter in her life. I know that she is scared, and nervous, and overwhelmed. And honestly, thinking back to my 18 year old self, I would have been, too. I am looking forward to watching her grow into her own person over these next years. I’m also so thankful for modern technology – FaceTime, Skype, and text messaging.
My daughter knows me all too well. Today was her first day of classes and she sent me this selfie for my collection of first day of school photos:
Looking ahead, I am less than 2 weeks out from my next marathon. I’ve made some pretty big changes in my training and nutrition this cycle so I’m excited to see how it pays off in getting me closer to my goal of running that 4 hour marathon. Next blog post I’ll share more of the details on that!
For those who have sent a child off to college, what’s your number one piece of advice for me?
