If you are looking on info and details on how to run your first 50k, sorry, you’ve come to the wrong place! If you follow my Instagram, you might have seen yesterday that I signed up for my first 50k, which is in just over 2 weeks. Yes, you read that right! I’ve been playing around with the idea but hadn’t made any solid commitment in my mind to it. Nor have I really researched how to train for one, although I’m pretty sure completing two marathons in the past month is pretty good training.
My plan is for this run to be purely for the joy of running and connecting with fellow runners. I am not concerned about my time or the normal fat loading prior to the run. (I will however still carb load for a few days prior.) I want to reconnect with my running community. The past year my schedule has not allowed me the opportunity to join in group runs the way I had in the past. I miss that. I miss the company, the knowledge sharing, the jokes, and the camaraderie. All of this is exactly the reason why I signed up for this particular 50k. It’s hosted by the Greater Omaha Area Trail Runners (GOATZ). The few chances I’ve had to run with some of them were amazing. I’ve also participated in one of their partner races held each Thanksgiving – The Feast and Feathers, and I think they do a phenomenal job. I am excited to run the trails and run for the joy of running, not racing.
For too many years I let fear hold me back from trying new things or putting myself in uncomfortable surroundings. Guess what, not any more. Don’t let fear hold you back. Don’t let it keep you from experiencing your dreams. You can be afraid and at a standstill in life, or you can take it by the wheel and truly experience greatness.
What have you done lately that scared you?
